5 FACTS BEHIND ORGANIC COTTON
- WHAT IS IT?
Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. (Organic Trade Association)
The organic seeds are just that, ORGANIC, meaning they are safer for your skin. The crop is rotated so it is not consistently being planted on the same plot of land, allowing for the soil to naturally replenish its nutrients while simultaneously reducing the need for frequent watering and irrigation.
- HOW IS IT PICKED?
Unlike non-organic cotton which is machine picked, organic cotton is handpicked. While this is more time consuming, it prevents the fibers from being damaged allowing for a softer longer fiber.
- WATER CONSUMPTION
Like saving water? Go organic!
NEWS FLASH There are a whole bunch of chemicals being used in the manufacturing of standard cotton ranging from heavy metals, to chlorine, and dyes. These chemicals are not something that can easily be washed out. Just like the pesticides that are absorbed into the standard crop, these chemicals adhere to the fabric which then touches your skin.
Organic cotton takes a natural path, using peroxide for whitening as well as natural and/or water-based dyes. This makes the material softer and perfect for all skin types.
THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY
Whatever is touching your skin is being absorbed into your pores, making its way into your bloodstream. Over time, your body can begin reacting to these chemicals in the form of skin irritation.
Based on these 5 facts alone, do you really want to put on a pair of undergarments that have been soaked in chemicals?!
